An environment designed to make making friends easy!
Seminars, participation in club activities, and events for international students.

Every year, many events for international students are held at the university.
International students can fully enjoy their life as international students as they interact with foreign languages and experience intercultural communication with other students.

留学生歓迎会Welcome party for international studentsNew international students are treated to a performance by the JAZZ club and are introduced by student staff and tutors, mainly drawn from GAP (Global Action Program)
体育大会Sports festivalStudents compete in sports like softball, futsal, and boys basketball. Students can deepen their bonds of friendship as they briefly forget about their studies as they sweat it out on the field.
I could never experience daily life with snow in Indonesia. It’s a really new and enjoyable experience that has shown me the “warmth and kindness of people.” There were so many events where international and Japanese students could interact and I could make many friends. I was able to experience a ton of things and could enjoy every day of my studies.

I came to Sapporo University as an exchange student for one year. There were far fewer English speakers than at a typical Kanto university, giving me plenty of opportunity to quickly improve my Japanese. The kimono experience and school festival (something we don’t have in New Zealand!) were a lot of fun.

留学生学外研修Field-trip for international studentsEvery year, students get the opportunity to visit Furano, one of the places always at the top of “places to visit in Hokkaido” rankings. Students experience Furano’s wonderful nature and facilities, and have the opportunity do some hands-on activities, improving their insight.
着物着付体験Kimono experienceStudents wear traditional Japanese kimono and visit a Japanese tea house to learn the traditional way to perform greetings, eat snacks, and drink green tea.

日本語スピーチコンテストJapanese speech contestThe speech contest is held to give Sapporo University’s international students an opportunity to show off their improved Japanese and to improve their motivation towards their studies.
There were a lot of opportunities to meet with various people and expand my knowledge of Japan. For example, we went as a class to Yoichi City, and had the opportunity to hear a Japanese CEO talk. Also, the library at Sapporo University is incredibly well equipped and features excellent facilities, making it a great place to study.
